The Story
Maarius81 has been filling up notebooks since high school — hundreds of them by now — writing far more than he ever records, which tells you something about what drives him. What makes it onto tape is dense with double and triple meanings, political conviction, and philosophical tangents that reward the people paying close enough attention. He thinks hard about how his raps are constructed, not just what they say, and there are layers in his work that take multiple listens to reach. His music has grown more personal over the years, which is what tends to happen when a writer keeps filling notebooks long enough. He splits his time between Seattle and a property on Camano Island, where he farms, where a lot of this music gets made, and where Umbrella Union held its first festival in 2025.
