The Story
Rob Banks has been making beats since 1998, working through an unconventional sequence of machines that most producers in his position wouldn't have chosen — and arriving, consistently, at something that layers more than it borrows. Whether he's building from scratch or working with samples, the question is always the same: where is the feeling in this, and how do you hold onto it through everything that comes next. He's been a vegetarian since he was twelve and has been consulting the I Ching for roughly twenty-five years, which is to say he has a long history of considering what deserves his attention — and that carries into the music. He has no interest in making something hollow, and nearly three decades in, that position hasn't moved.
